Quarterly Badsey Society newsletter sent to members. Events: at AGM Will Dallimore stood down and Mike Lovatt was elected as Chairman. There followed talks by Committee members on aspects of Badsey’s history and Mick Taylor of Aldington brought collection of slide rules and measuring devices. Future events: launch of next Badsey Society publication and talk by David Caswell, village blacksmith. Whit Walk would be a around the village of Aldington including the Manor and Barn and there would be Badsey Open Gardens weekend where we would have stall and Badsey Flower Show. Website contains memoir written by Roy Page (wife Mary nee Cook) of Green Leys. For family historians Peter Stewart has produced CD containing copy of his latest book, Badsey Church, its Registers & Monumental Inscriptions and a copy of the Badsey Burial Index 1538-2008. Peter has written chapter about Badsey Churchyard in our publication, “Aldington and Badsey: Villages in the Vale, a Tapestry of Local History”. Mick Taylor has written memoir of his childhood days and Valerie Magan has compiled history of the Stanford and Crisp families following finding of documents in John Crisp’s house. Mick and Valerie’s articles will be featured in future. Report on Village Blacksmith David Caswell and his grandfather who set up blacksmith’s business in Badsey after moving from Bretforton 100 years ago. Two Golden Wedding anniversaries in village; Patrick and Judy Sparrow and Pete and Ro Addis as well as Diamond Wedding anniversary of Bob and Bet Butler. Finally Committee has decided to present an annual award to someone who has contributed greatly to community of Badsey or Aldington in memory of Tony Jerram and future nominations will be welcomed. Also in near future Badsey and Aldington 1911 Census will be available on Find My Past website and we intended to take out a subscription & ask for volunteer transcribers.
