Description
Valerie Magan of Badsey writes about her grandfather, Joshua Osborne, who was in the Metropolitan Police Force. Includes details of him finding an abandoned baby in August 1917 in a first-class carriage at Goodmayes Station. He took the baby to Chadwell Heath Police Station and then to Romford Workhouse. Joshua and his wife, Lilian, applied to adopt the baby, possibly because they had lost a daughter three years earlier. The adoption request was successful - that baby girl was Valerie's mother.
