DEATH OF AN OCTOGENARIAN
We regret to record the death of Mr William Barnard of Badsey at the ripe old age of 89. The deceased had been a resident at Badsey for considerably more than half a century, and for fifty years has been parish clerk. In the discharge of the duties of this office he was most diligent; in fact, he seemed to think that no ceremony could be properly performed in his absence. He was also for a long series of years village postman, and his duties in this connection brought him continually into Evesham, where he made many friends, and where he was a very familiar figure. He was of small stature and very spare, but a man of wonderful vitality, and at the advanced age of four score years could walk as briskly as many a man not half his age. On one occasion, in his 83rd year, he walked to Evesham and back three times, and later in the day went to Malvern and ascended the Worcestershire Beacon. The deceased, who was an ardent Conservative, has for some years past lived with his son-in-law, Mr Charles Warner. The funeral took place at Badsey on Thursday.
