RURAL SANITARY AUTHORITY - BADSEY AND WICKHAMFORD WATER SUPPLY
A letter was read from the Town Clerk of Evesham on behalf of the Urban Sanitary Authority acceding to the request for permission to tap the main for the supply of Mr Bullock’s premises.
A NAMELESS SERVANT
The Clerk reported the receipt of applications from Mr John Hardiman (blacksmith) and Mr W R Warmington to be entrusted with the care of the water supply arrangements at Badsey. The Clerk, continuing, reminded the board that whoever was employed must not be termed inspector or have any similar title - he must be merely employed to do the work, as in the event of his receiving the title of officer to the board his salary would become chargeable to the whole of the union instead of Badsey alone. Testimonials were received from the parishioners of Badsey in favour of Hardiman, and he being a practical man and approved of by the parish, the board were in favour of his appointment, and decided accordingly. The question of remuneration was deferred.
For Wickhamford, the only applicant was Mr George Pethard (wheelwright), who had been recommended by the vestry, and he was appointed.
AN APPLICATION
An application was read from Mr John Byrd of Badsey to have the water supply laid on to his premises for general purposes. Some discussion took lace as to the method of charging for water in such cases, and the guardians appeared to be of opinion that the most suitable way of dealing with the matter would be to supply the water by meter, and charge accordingly, but the final decision was postponed, the Clerk stating that he had several similar applications.
FINANCIAL
The Clerk asked for payment of bills to the amount of £39 on account of Badsey loan account. He had asked for a call of £101 2s 2d on the Joint Hospital account, which he had made according to the method approved of at the last meeting of the Sanitary Authority - vis, at the rate of 1/2d in the £ for general expenses; and he had also made the following calls: Ashton-under-Hill, £5; Weston Subedge, £5; Harvington, £5 (all poor rate); Willersey, special sanitary rte, £20; Broadway, £56; Great and Little Hampton, £50; Offenham, £17; Badsey, £40; Wickhamford, £12. With respect to Wickhamford and Badsey, this was the first call on the parishes to repay the loan and other matters.
BADSEY AND WICKHAMFORD WATER SUPPLY
The whole of the inhabitants of Wickhamford have availed themselves of the new water supply, every dwelling being, at the present moment, in communication with the main. Badsey, however, has not yet moved in the matter.
