1927c – Photo of High Street, Badsey

Description

This photograph was probably taken in the late 1920s or in the 1930s, certainly after the electricity supply came to Badsey.  The pale building on the right is what is now The Spar, High Street, Badsey; it was occupied as a General Stores on the left-hand side and a wheelwright’s shop belonging to Lewis Stribblehill on the right-hand side.  The building next to was Cull’s the bakers, but there also appears to be an Esso sign and petrol pump outside, and also a bus stop sign.  Carrying on down the High Street is the high wall leading to The Poplars (demolished 1960s), Seward House and the cottages at the far end of the High Street on the corner of Mill Lane.

The tall house on the left-hand side, obscured by trees, was Vine Cottage (currently known as Meadway House, No 11 High Street).
