At 11 am on Friday 8th May 2020, the sound of a lone bugler playing The Last Post echoed through Badsey, fading away to the two-minute silence. Later that day, many people throughout Badsey, Aldington and Wickhamford, came out into their front gardens to remember together the 75th anniversary of Victory in Europe during the Second World War.
In the midst of a pandemic that has confined us to our homes, forcing us to keep our distance from one another, the commemorations might have been expected to be muted. But not so – bunting and flags sprung up all over the village and social distancing tea and drinks parties were organised. The sun shone, the sky was blue, and people for a time could forget their worries.
