He could write Lord’s Prayer on Postage Stamp – Death of Mr M Taylor
The death is reported of Mr Morton Taylor of Wickhamford. Mr Taylor died at his home on Sunday morning after an illness which had necessitated his removal for treatment to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham, some time ago. He was well-known for his military career, of which he had just cause to be proud, having served in both world wars. He was gassed badly in France in the 1914-18 war and was perhaps the oldest volunteer locally at the outbreak of war in 1939. He served again in France, and was in the epic evacuation from Dunkirk.
After the war, Mr Taylor resumed his calling as a painter and decorator. He was employed in maintenance service at the BBC Wood Norton where he made many friends among the staff and where his painstaking and meticulous work stamped him as a first-class tradesman.
Though a quiet man who never sought the limelight, Mr Taylor was a knowledgeable person. He was a fine calligraphist and had been known to write the Lord’s Prayer in beautiful characters on the size of a penny stamp.
Mr Taylor, who was 67 years of age, leaves a widow, a son and two daughters, having lost a son in the last great war.
