BADSEY MAN’S PRESTON BRIDE – Parish Clerk’s wedding in North of England

The marriage took place at Preston, Lancs, on Saturday, of Mr Douglas Austin Jelfs, of No 3 Synehurst, Badsey, and Mrs Nora Duffield, of No 55,Victoria Road, Fulwood, Preston, Lancs. The bridegroom is the eldest son of Mr & Mrs William H Jelfs, of Lion End Cottage, Boreham, near Chelmsford, Essex (and late of Badsey) and the bride is the only daughter of Mr & the late Mrs Thomas Harpley of Whitecroft, Walton-le-Dale, near Preston, Lancs. 

The bride was dressed in an ice blue dress, over which she wore a light blue coat with navy blue accessories. She was attended by Miss E Buxton, her friend, who wore a lime green dress and fur coat. Mr George W Jelfs, the bridegroom's brother, was best man. The bride is a native of Preston receiving her education at Preston Park School. For several years she was a school teacher in Preston and Bradford, Yorkshire. 

The bridegroom is a native of Badsey and was educated at Prince Henry's Grammar School, Evesham. Since leaving school he has been employed in the Surveyor's Department of Evesham Rural District Council. He has always taken an active interest in the social affairs of the village, being a member of the Badsey Rangers Football Club Committee, having previously been a playing member of the team, being on the Village Hall Committee, the Flower Show Committee, and the local branch of the British Legion Committee. He is also clerk to the Badsey Parish Council. For over five years he served in HM Forces during the war. 

After the ceremony a reception was held at the White Horse Hotel, Preston, and afterwards at the bride's home. They were the recipients of numerous congratulatory telegrams from relatives and friends, and also received many useful presents, including one from the staff of the Evesham Rural District Council. Their future home will be at No 3, Synehurst, Badsey.
