Left Hospital—Celebrated Golden Wedding
Mrs George Henry Crane of 9 Synehurst, Badsey, who returned home from hospital following a serious operation on Thursday week, was perhaps welcomed home more than ever before. For three days later, on Sunday, she and 89-year-old Mr Crane were celebrating their golden wedding, around them to join in the jollifications being their 13 children and a number of their 23 grandchildren (there are three great-grandchildren). Mr Crane, who is the third son of the late Mr & Mrs John Crane of Silk Mills, Badsey, has lived in the village all his life, for the most part having been engaged in the market gardening industry. He retired four years ago owing to ill-health, though at times he can still be seen working in his garden. Mrs Crane, who is 71 is the second daughter of the late Mr & Mrs Perkins of New Street, Bretforton, and was born in Birmingham. On leaving school she entered domestic service, for the latter part being with the late Mrs Henry Ashwm, grandmother of Mr Henry Ashwin of Bretforton Manor.
Mr & Mrs Crane have eight daughters and four sons.
Among the 50 guests at the celebration party at The Royal Oak, Badsey, on Saturday evening were the Rev W B Chapman (Vicar) and Mrs Chapman. There were many congratulatory telegrams and 29 greeting cards, and among numerous presents was a cheque from the Ernie Thomas Lodge of the RAOB, of which Mr Crane had been a member for many years.
Mrs Crane has also taken part in village activities, being a member of the Parochial Church Council. and for many years an exhibitor and regular prizewinner at Badsey Flower Show. She is reported to be making good progress folling the operation. Both Mr & Mrs Crane are in full use of their faculties.
