MISS JOAN HORTON WEDS – Picturesque Ceremony at All Saints
The wedding took place at All Saints’ Church on Saturday of Trooper Cecil John Jones, youngest son of Mr & Mrs F Jones, Cambria, Badsey, and Miss Joan Gwendoline May Horton, only daughter of Mr & Mrs Horton, 16 Briar Close, Evesham.
The bride, who was given away by her father, looked becoming in white satin, with a train and veil held in place by orange blossom. She carried a bouquet of pink rosebuds with white heather and trailing ferns. Mrs Florence Hatch (friend of the bride) was matron of honour, while the bridesmaids were Miss May Hartwell (also friend of the bride) and little Miss June Caddlck (niece of the bridegroom). The two elder attendants were dressed alike in silk taffeta with headdresses of leaves and long mittens to match their dresses, except that Mrs Hatch was in green, while Miss Hartwell wore rose pink. Both their bouquets were pink cactus dahlias, pink rose buds, blue scabious and trailing ferns. The smaller bridesmaid had on a green silk taffeta dress, a bonnet to match and carried a posy of mixed flowers.
The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Frederick Jones, 15 Synehurst, Badsey (brother of the bridegroom).
The service was conducted by the Reverend Canon T Charles Jones, assisted by the Reverend N M Denlegh Maxwell. The Bridal March and the hymn "Lead Us Heavenly Father" was played, Mr Slatter being at the organ.
The reception followed at Grove’s Tea Rooms, where a number of guests were entertained. When the couple left for their honeymoon. which is being spent at St Anne’s-on-Sea, the bride was wearing a blue dress with a heavy travelling coat and hat and accessories to tone.
