BADSEY – A PRETTY WEDDING
In fine weather on Saturday afternoon last a pretty though quiet wedding was seen at St James’ Church. The bride was Miss Beatrice Ellen Jelfs, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs Frederick Jelfs of Brewers Road, Badsey, and the bridegroom Mr Arthur William Hancox, the eldest son of Mr & Mrs Hancox of Shottery Road, Stratford-on-Avon.
The bride looked charming in a dress of ivory crepe de chine with a wreath of orange blossoms over her veil. She was wearing white suede shoes and white stockings, and carried a bouquet of white roses and carnations.
The bridesmaids were the Misses Flossie and Lily Jelfs, sisters of the bride, and the Misses Lily and Dorothy Hancox, sisters of the bridegroom. They were gaily clad in pretty dresses of pale blue silk marocain and wore black picture hats, each of which was trimmed with white roses. They also wore gold bangles on their arms, the gift of the bridegroom. They carried bouquets of chrysanthemums and maidenhair fern.
The bride was given away by her father who is well known in the village and who has been in the building trade for some years.
The ceremony was carried out by the Vicar, the Rev W C Allsebrook, MA. Mr Percy Hancox, a brother of the bridegroom, acted as best man. The reception was held at the bride’s home in Brewers Road where there was a large assembly of relatives and friends.
The happy couple were the recipients of a number of beautiful and useful presents, including an excellent wedding cake. The newly married couple will make their home at Stratford-on-Avon.
