MARRIAGE OF MISS F JONES
An interesting wedding was solemnised in St James’ Church, Badsey, by the Rev P W Worster (curate of Evesham, in the absence of the Vicar, the Rev W C Allsebrook, MA). The contracting parties were Miss Frances Louisa Jones, only daughter of Mr & Mrs George E Jones of Cambrai, Badsey Fields, and Mr Albert Edward Taylor, second son of Mr & Mrs James Taylor of 63 Wolverhampton Street, Dudley.
The bride was charmingly attired in a costume of navy blue serge, trimmed with grey fur, with a jumper of grey crêpe-de-chine and fuchsia trimmings. She wore a hat of fuchsia-coloured plush, trimmed with silver flowers, grey suede shoes, grey stockings and carried a bouquet of white chrysanthemums, red carnations and lilies of the valley. The bridesmaids were Miss Gertrude Blake and Miss Doris Underhill (friends of the bride) and Miss Grace Jones (the bride’s little niece). They wore dresses of wisteria velvet, trimmed with white fur, and silver bangles, the gifts of the bridegroom. They carried sheaves of whit chrysanthemums. The bride was given away by her father, who is a well-known market gardener in the district. The best man was ex-Lieut Arthur W Davis (a friend of the bridegroom).
The bride was a teacher at the Badsey Friends’ Sunday School. The bridegroom served during the war in the Army Service Corps as a despatch rider in the Motor Transport Section.
Following the ceremony, at which the church was practically full, a reception was held at the bride’s home, where about 40 relatives and friends drank the toast of the happy couple. There was a two-tier wedding cake of large dimensions. It was made in Evesham.
The happy pair were the recipients of a large number of useful and handsome presents. Mr & Mrs Howell of Mayfield, Bidford, lent their car to assist in conveying guests to and from the Church.
