DISTRICT NEWS, BADSEY – WEDDING

Much interest locally was taken in the marriage on Wednesday morning of Miss Ruth Knight, second daughter of Mr and the late Mrs J E Knight of Fairview and Mr Wilfred Jelfs, second son of Mr Alfred Jelfs of 11 Ivy Lane, Bretforton.

The service, which took place at St James’ Church, was conducted by the Vicar (Canon Allsebrook).  The bride, who was given away by her father, was attired in a dress of grey ground figured with blue, a hat to match and black shoes and grey stockings.  She carried a bouquet of white roses and white chrysanthemums.  She was attended by Miss Phyllis Edna Knight, her cousin, who wore a dress of Royal blue with hat to match and black shoes.  Her bouquet comprised white chrysanthemums and pink carnations.  The duties of best man were carried bout by Mr Frank Byrd, step-brother of the groom.

The bride was educated at Badsey Council School and Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Evesham.  She took a keen interest in all forms of sport, being a playing member of the Grammar School Workman House hockey team.  She was a member of the local branch of the Girls’ Friendly Society and a teacher at St James’ Church Sunday School.  The bridegroom is also very well known in the district.

After the ceremony, a reception was held at the bride’s parents home where numerous guests assembled.  Later in the day, Mr & Mrs Jelfs left for their honeymoon which is being spent at Weston-super-Mare.  The bride travelled in a black and green dress over which she wore a green coat with a brown fur collar and hat to match.

Mr & Mrs Jelfs will make their future home at Campden Road, Bretforton.  They were the recipients of numerous useful and handsome presents.
