ALDINGTON, WEDDING
On Monday morning, the marriage of Miss Sylvia Byrd, eldest daughter of Mr Thomas Byrd, CC, of Aldington, and Mr Albert William Barrett, eldest son of Mr Alfred Barrett of Aston Somerville, took place at the Baptist Chapel, Cowl Street, Evesham. The ceremony was performed by the Rev H B Case in the presence of a large gathering of relations and friends. The bride, who wore a travelling dress, was attended by her sister, Miss Mary Byrd, and was given away by Mr William Byrd (uncle). Mr John Morris acted as best man and other members of the wedding party present were: Misses S and K Byrd, Stratford; Miss Tredwell, Manchester; Mr T Byrd, Junior, Mrs A Barrett, the Misses S and A Barrett, Messrs James and John Barrett, and Mr & Mrs W Firkins. On the return from the ceremony, the wedding party was met at the entrance to the village by the Aldington Brass Band, who discoursed appropriate music whilst breakfast was partaken of at the residence of the bride’s father. A number of congratulatory telegrams were received, and at 2.30 pm the happy pair left, amidst showers or rice and good wishes, for Basingstoke where the honeymoon is to be spent. In addition to many valuable and useful presents from personal friends, the following public presentations were made: To the bride, from tenants and inhabitants of Aldington, dinner service, tea service and set of jugs; from teachers and scholars of Aldington Sunday School, brass-mounted coal box and pair silver salts.
