During the 2020 lockdowns, Tony and Maureen Spinks began rediscovering the local footpaths in the Badsey area. There are some glorious churches in the area. Whilst most of these are not as accessible as they were in pre-COVID days, we can still appreciate the magnificence of their architecture. The majority of the churches are within a 5-mile radius of Badsey (all six churches within the United Benefice are featured), with one slightly further away.
In this “just-for-fun” quiz, Terry Sparrow managed to identify correctly eleven out of twelve of the church towers. If the Dallimore brothers hadn’t muddled up North and Middle Littleton with Offenham, they would have had all twelve correct.
As for how far the Reverend Philip Morton would have to travel if he were to take the shortest distance to visit all the churches in his care, on a round trip from Badsey Church, by car it comes to 14½ miles and on foot, around 12 miles. When it’s not quite so sticky underfoot, why not try “the United Benefice round” exploring the local footpaths?
Members of the Freedom Club have had great fun trying to identify the churches. Tracey Hemming tells me that they love doing quizzes, so if anyone has any photo quizzes on a local theme, please email history@badsey.net.
