This is a collection of photographs of flooding in Wickhamford that took place on 11th July 1968. Three inches of rain fell in 24 hours and Waterside, in Evesham, was under 3ft of water.
The Birmingham Daily Post of 13th July 1968 recorded that Council workmen were called to more than 50 houses in Broadway, Sedgeberrow, Childswickham, Wickhamford, Badsey and Honeybourne. The Borough Surveyor of Evesham, Mr J Hodson, sent an urgent appeal to the Ministry of Housing for heaters to dry out houses. The article noted that Evesham had experienced the worst conditions for 21 years. The town was cut into three parts and Worcester traffic could not enter the town across the Abbey Bridge. In the rush hour, normally five-minute journeys were taking 45 minutes.
