Miss G M Tooley and Mr J E Butler
The wedding was solemnised at All Saints’ Church, Evesham, on Saturday, of Miss Gwendoline Mary Tooley, only daughter of Mr & Mrs Victor Tooley of 21 Mill Street, Evesham, and Mr John Edward Butler, eldest son of Mr & Mrs Arthur Butler of Chalcroft, Badsey.
The ceremony was conducted by the Vicar of Badsey, Canon W C Allsebrook, assisted by the Rev T W W Pillifant, Evesham Curate. The Vicar of Evesham, Canon T Charles Jones, also took part in the service. Mr A M Slatter at the organ played the hymns “The Voice that breathed o’er Eden” and “Lead us Heavenly Father, lead us”.
Given away by her father, the bride wore a gown of cream brocaded satin with short train, parchment veil and coronet. She carried a bouquet of mixed roses.
The three bridesmaids were the Misses Peggy and Sheila Butler (bridegroom’s sister) and Miss M Griffiths (bride’s cousin). The Misses Butler wore dresses of blue sprigged organdie over blue satin slips, with silver haloes and shoes to tone. Their bouquets were of pink chrysanthemums. Miss Griffiths wore an ankle-length dress of blue satin and blue poke bonnet, and carried a posy of mixed flowers.
The best man was Mr Robert Butler (brother of the bridegroom).
The many presents included gifts from Willmotts Ltd, Evesham, where the bride has been employed for the past 10 years, and from her workmates.
Mr & Mrs Butler will make their home at Blackminster.
