Badsey & Aldington Trail - Location 11

The Mill at Badsey

There has been at least one mill at Badsey for at least 270 years. From 1747 until 1818 it was a corn mill, but in 1818 it was sold to John Thorp, a silk manufacturer from Coventry, who set about converting it into a silk mill, and built the brick building known as Silk Mill Cottages that you can see today.  Under the ownership of the Thorp family, silk continued to be manufactured here until 1853, when it closed due to the decline in the silk industry. The Silk Mill was auctioned at the Northwick Arms in Evesham on 12th October 1863 to William Parker, who converted it into the cottages that we see today.

Flood Marks

Once you have had a game of Poohsticks and crossed the bridge, look out for the flood marks from the memorable 1998 and 2007 floods that are adjacent to the footpath.
