18 High Street - The Sumachs Bakery
This detached house was built in about the 17th century and renovated in 1858 (a date can still be seen on the south wall). In about 1882 it was bought by John Cull who set up a bakery business known as The Sumachs Bakery. It remained a bakery run by the Cull family right up until the 1950s, as recalled by Roy Page in his memoirs. The house has been unoccupied since the mid1980s, following the death of Lucy Ellen Cull at the age of 90 in May 1986.
