Letter to the Reverend W H Price from John Smith & Sons (Frank & John H Smith, Partners), Midland Team Clock Works, Queen Street & Market Place, Derby, Manufacturers by Special Machinery of every description of Clocks, Chimes, Carillons etc for Cathedrals, Churches, Stables, Railway Stations, etc - concerning the completion of installation of the new clock:
Dear Sir
It is very pleasant and gratifying to receive such a letter as you have been kind enough to send to us.
With regard to the timekeeping of the clock we are quite sure it will be everything that you could wish. If it loses the nut at bottom of pendulum requires screwing up a little to raise the ball, say not more than ¼ of a turn at a time, and when it is going nearly right not more than 1/8 of a turn, but make sure that you get the right time to regulate it by because this clock when regulated will go to a few seconds per month the time comes to the telegraph office every morning at 10 o’clock, but to regulate clock it is necessary to be there to see how it is with regard to the clock striking.
We were sure that you would like the man that we sent, he is very reliable and gives great satisfaction wherever he goes.
With regard to the woodwork for the harness, it is always considered part of the woodwork, it is in fact woodwork and our man merely has to fit his hammers on the timbers, but where there are six hammers, this part sometimes comes rather heavy.
Again thanking you and soliciting your further favours
We remain
Yours obediently
John Smith & Sons
