What a remarkable achievement! Never before in this country has there been a Platinum Jubilee celebration for a reigning monarch. As of a few days ago, Queen Elizabeth II became the second longest-reigning monarch ever, overtaking King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand who reigned for 70 years 126 days from 1946-2016. (The longest-reigning monarch ever was Louis XIV of France who reigned for 72 years 110 days.)
To mark the occasion of this historic Platinum Jubilee event in the UK, the Bank Holiday (normally the last Monday in May) was moved to Thursday 2nd June (anniversary of the Coronation) with an additional Bank Holiday being given on Friday 3rd June, thus giving a four-day weekend to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee.
In Badsey, at Badsey Community & Sports Club, there was a Family Fun Day on the Friday and outdoor live music on the Saturday. In Wickhamford, celebrations got under way at Wickhamford Sports Club on the Thursday morning when a big screen showed the Trooping of the Colour, continuing on the Saturday there with a picnic and party.
Meanwhile, bunting and flags appeared in various places around the villages. Click on the images below to see how Badsey and Wickhamford celebrated.
