MISS M H JELFS WEDS – Badsey and Evesham families united

The wedding was solemnised on Saturday at St James’ Church, Badsey, between Miss Marjorie Helen Jelfs, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs E F Jelfs of 5 Silk Mills, Badsey, and Corporal Reginald N Bennett, son of Mr & Mrs H Bennett of 14 Edward Street, Evesham.  The service was conducted by Rev C M Stickings, Vicar of Bretforton.

The bride, looking charming in a white satin gown with headdress of orange blossom, carried a bouquet of bronze chrysanthemums and was given away by her father.  She was attended by four bridesmaids, Miss Dorothy Jelfs and Miss Irene Jelfs (sisters), who wore taffeta and pink net; Miss Mavis Jelfs (sister), who wore taffeta and blue net, and Mrs A Haywood, who wore mauve taffeta.  The bridesmaids carried bronze chrysanthemums and fern.  Mr Tom Corbett was best man.

A reception followed at the Old School, Badsey, where 127 guests were entertained.  The bridegroom’s present to the bride was a gold necklace and he presented the bridesmaids with three necklaces and a brooch.  The bride’s present to the bridegroom was a silver cigarette case.

Chesterfield was the destination for the honeymoon and the bride’s travelling dress was a brown check costume and accessories.  Bride and bridegroom were the recipients of many useful gifts.
