Dear Mother
A very strenuous day yesterday. We made an attack at dawn, and after advancing a second attack in the open in the middle of the day, and finally from the point we had reached made a night assault at about 7.30 which was successful, the unit was a clearing out hurriedly and leaving a machine gun and much other stuff behind. Rather expensive in casualties unfortunately as papers will show. Came back to reserve after midnight. Hoping to write to Mela today. Saw Harold Allesbrook with a painful bullet wound in thigh but not dangerous I should think. He got it in the night attack.
Best love from
Cyril
