My darling Husband,

You will expect a line tomorrow & I will write before dinner as I want to try & go out a little afterwards.  This is my first letter this year that accounts for my dating it wrong, it seems natural that my dearest husband should be the first person I write to in the new year.

Baby was rather fretful to be dressed today, but not very bad.  Edith helped me handing me the things, so I got on all right.

He has not had his morning sleep but is lying in his bassinette taking a long time over his bottle, so I am able to write; I hope he may drop off presently.

I heard from Martha this morning.  There is nothing to relate so with fondest love my own darling

Believe me

Your loving wife

Eugénie N Sladden

P.S. How about the carpet in my room?  When am I to have it up & who is to do it?

I have just received a little almanac from Joe, as an “étreuner” I suppose.
