My Darling Eugénie,
I am writing this just a minute or two before sitting down to breakfast with Alf Hitchman.
I had a safe journey and a fair passage although there was a considerable amount of motion in the boat. I do not feel tired now I have had a good wash up.
I thought of you, my own sweet Eugénie, very much on my journey and of the happy hours we spent together.
God bless you my own darling, you have all the best affection of
Your most affectionate
Julius Sladden
