Adelphi Hotel
York

My dearest Wife,
We have just seen Jack off, 5.35, it should have been twenty minutes earlier but the North train was late in, there is a dining car on so he will be able to get a good meal going up, he is looking quite brown from the Whitby air and is going back to work in quite good trim, he hopes to take the remainder of his holiday at home in about a month’s time.
We are still favoured with fine weather and had time yesterday to see quite a good bit of York, it is evidently quite a place of much interest, to-day we have peeped into several of the old churches, they are very numerous. We went to the service at the Minster this morning, it is a very imposing pile and unusually lofty, we must inspect it thoroughly another day, after service we went round the city walls, it was nearly an hour’s walk. To-morrow we hope to go to Ripon and from there by another motor ‘bus to Fountains Abbey.
This house is really quite comfortable and the terms are moderate, we feel it is so much nicer than a boarding house, of course it is not like the Mitre! I hope you got our address this morning, you may post to us up to Tuesday evening. We will let you know what time to expect us on Wednesday. May spoke of your not being quite the thing I hope you have shaken off any little ailment. How did the Stratford expedition go off, I hope you had a fine day and that you enjoyed the play.
We are rather anxious to hear about Arthur’s plans, whether they mature or not, I sent him our York address.
Brailsford need not trouble about the Pershore plums for a day or two unless they are getting really fit, if picked they will have to go up without delay. You must send for the brewery cart.
Much love dear to you and May
Your loving Husband
