My darling Mother,

We are both so pleased at the news this morning, I think it has all turned out as we wanted it hasn’t it?  I should like to be able to fly home by telegraph just for a little while.  Ethel & I have never had such a nice birthday present before.  How pleased Ethel will be, getting the news on her birthday Kathleen seems quite off her head with delight, to judge from the letter she has written home.  How glad you must be that you have Mary with you.  I am looking forward to getting a letter tomorrow morning from Father, I shall leave this open until then.  I have received a parcel from Auntie Lottie containing a cake & some ginger-bread, also some coconut ice which is delicious.  I must write today & thank her.  What a lot of people Father must have had to write to.

The measles seem to be spreading several more children have got them.  I can think of nothing but the news we have just received, so I will not try to write about anything else, we are very glad indeed & I am sure you & Father must be.  Goodbye, with very much love

I am
your loving daughter

May E. Sladden
