My dear Kathleen

I was lazy yesterday, or rather, so deep in a book that I read it instead of writing to you.  I will enclose this in Aunt L’s letter, so don’t expect a long one this time.  We shall meet soon I hope, so there isn’t any need to write much.

I do hope you are having a good time.  I expect you will find you need not at all tied yourself to the Aunt’s apron-string, she doesn’t expect it & generally finds some congenial spirits to occupy some of her time, so if you can find some congenial to you you can do the same.

(I have just discovered that it isn’t my week to write to you, all the better I may get a scrawl from you in a few days time).

Did I tell you about our friend Mr Ransome when we met on the Margate boat the old “Dragon”?  Yes I know I did only I didn’t mention his name.  Well, we have not seen him again on the break here although he seemed at the time most anxious to see us & was certainly coming one day last week to see what Frinton is like (he hails from Ipswich).  Men are fickle creatures aren’t they! & to think that I have refrained from dipping my head while bathing nearly every day for a week in case I should regret looking a fright afterwards, & all in vain!  Don’t be alarmed this is only a letter written in holiday mood, to remind you that life isn’t all grind, I'm not quite so giddy as I sound.  I am quite pleased with myself for having spent less here evidently than Mrs Jackson expected, I was rather keen on doing things economically just to show what could be done, although of course we have had everything we wanted, & I know that when Miss Ormesher was at Seaboro’ with Brab & Anthony, she spent what they considered a lot, so I was rather pleased to hear from Mrs J. this morning when she sent the cheque I asked for, that she thought I had done very well not to want more.

Jack hopes to meet me at Paddington on Wed: for lunch, I hope to go to Harley Street on my way from Liverpool Street, & shall take the 1.45 home.  I am glad Jack is taking his holiday earlier after all, I shall see a nice lot of him.  He suggests our going to Belgium & I expect we shall decide upon that for our trip.

Much love from May
