Dear Mr Sladden
I heard this morning a fine testimony to your son’s courage and devotion, that I felt you would like to know of it.
The woman who “does for me” has a relative in the Worcesters who was wounded and he wrote home that as he lay out there he gave up all hope till he saw Mr Sladden coming along and then it was all right. He went on to add that he hoped it would be in the papers because it was such a brave and thoughtful action.
I know the idea of a man going bravely out to save others makes my blood tingle, I can only imagine your pride and satisfaction when the gallant rescuer is your own son.
With very hearty congratulations.
Yours sincerely and fraternally
A L King
PS – The man’s name is J Baldwin.
