Dorothy Mary SLADDEN (1915-1995)
Dorothy Mary Sladden (1915-1995) was the daughter of Arthur and Mary Sladden and granddaughter of Julius and Eugénie Sladden. From the time of her birth, she is mentioned in numerous letters, often referred to just as “Baby” or “Dolly Molly”.
Dorothy Sladden was born on 12th August 1915 in Port Talbot, Glamorganshire, the eldest of three children of Arthur Francis Savory Sladden and his wife, Mary Christabel (née Williams). Her father was serving with the Royal Army Medical Corps in Rouen at the time of her birth but he was able to return home shortly after her birth and he was present at her christening the following month.
Dorothy never married. She graduated in languages and worked in the Foreign Office for some years. She died at Brisworth near Northampton in 1995.
