Margaretta Maria SLADDEN (1863-1955)

Margaretta Maria Sladden (1863-1955) was a distance relative of the Sladden family, though the precise connection is unknown.

Margaretta, born in 1863, was one of nine children of John Spiers Sladden by his second wife, Mary Hannah (née Martin).  John Sladden had been born in Sandwich, Kent, in 1811 and was now Master of the Grammar School in Stockton-on-Tees.

Margaretta remained all her life in County Durham.  She never married and was firstly a schoolmistress and then a governess to some of her nieces and nephews.

Margaretta died in 1955 aged 92.
