John Townsend WESTCOTT (1868-1944)
John Townsend Westcott (1868-1944) was an American citizen who lived next-door to Fanny Walton (the niece of Eugénie Sladden) and her family at Twickenham.
John Westcott was born at Granville, New Jersey, USA, on 14th March 1868, the son of a chaplain. He studied at the University of Cincinnati and St John’s College, Oxford.
John married Grace in about 1894 and had one daughter, Margaret Townsend Westcott, born at Richmond on 11th July 1901. The Westcotts split their time between America and England. In England, they lived at 11 Strawberry Hill, Twickenham, from at least 1910-1915. John was a retired civil engineer, contractor for erection of gas works.
On one occasion in February 1914, they dined with Fanny’s mother, Mary Anna Robinson, at Marshgate House, Richmond.
At the time of the 1939 register, the Westcotts lived at Brent Tor, Westcliff Road, Bournemouth.
John died in Bournemouth in 1944 and Grace died in Bournemouth in 1954.
