Georgina Elizabeth WILLIAMS (née ROWLANDS) (1857-1936)
Georgina Elizabeth Williams, née Rowlands (1857-1936), was the mother of Mary Christabel Williams who married Arthur Sladden in April 1914.
Georgina Rowlands was born in 1857 at Cardigan, the third of seven children of Daniel Rowlands, an Excise Officer, and his wife, Sarah Jane. She was baptised at St Mary’s, Cardigan, on 5th April 1857. The Rowlands family was living at Albion Terrace, Cardigan, at the time of her baptism, but they later moved to 10 Pendre Street, Cardigan, where Georgina lived until her marriage.
Georgina married Llewelyn Morgan Williams, a clerk in holy orders, in 1881 at Cardigan. They had eight daughters before they finally had a son: Florence Olivia (1883-1925), Margaret Irene (1885-1974), Mary Christabel (1887-1981), Georgina Millicent (1890-1986), Kathleen Beryl (1892-1981), Gwladus Olwen (1894-1974), Dorothy Monica (1896-1987), Cornelia Gwendoline (1898-1983) and Elmer Howell Morgan (1901-1931).
They lived firstly at Taibach Parsonage, then moved to Pontlottyn in 1883. From 1889 they lived at Dowlais when Llewelyn became Rector of Dowlais. At the time of the 1911 census, Georgina was staying at The Mount, Newport, with two of her children, whilst Llewelyn was at Dowlais with most of the other children.
In 1920, Georgina and Llewelyn moved to Llanwenarth Citra, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, when he became Rector. Following Llewelyn’s death in November 1935, Georgina moved to Endcliffe, Belgrave Road, Abergavenny, Monmouthshire, where she died on 26th January 1936, aged 79, 2½ months after her husband. Their only son had died in 1931 but their daughters (with the exception of the eldest) all lived until their eighties or nineties.
