Christopher Robert Walpole SIMMONS (1894-1928)
Christopher Robert Walpole Simmons (1894-1928) was Assistant Adjutant at Southern Depot Command, Sutton Coldfield, at the time that Mela Brown Constable was working there.
Christopher Walpole Simmons was born at Worcester, the youngest of five children of Edward Walpole Simmons, a doctor of medicine, and his wife, Amy Louisa Ida. He was baptized on 4th November 1894 at St Peter-the-Great, Worcester. He grew up at 26 Sidbury, Worcester and was educated at the King’s School, Worcester. He worked for a short time in the brewery office of Sladden & Collier in Evesham thus knew Julius Sladden and had visited the rose garden at Seward House.
In July 1914, Christopher was gazetted 2nd Lieutenant in the Worcestershire Regiment, first going overseas on 7th November 1914; he was promoted to Lieutenant in May 1916. By 1917, he was attached to Southern Depot Command as Assistant Adjutant. He was gazetted Captain in September 1920, but to rank from August 1918.
Christopher died in the Truro district of Cornwall in 1928, aged 34.
