Kent - Dover: 7 Camden Crescent
Charlotte Hayward (née Sladden)’s brother-in-law, Henry Hayward, and wife, Marianne, lived at 7 Camden Crescent, Dover. They had moved there some time at the beginning of the 20th century.
Camden Crescent runs parallel to Marine Parade. A terrace of ten tall imposing houses was built in the 1840s. Shortly after the outbreak of the First World War, Julius Sladden visited the Haywards and had grand views of the harbour from their upstairs drawing room.
An earlier occupant of No 7 was Cuthbert John Ottaway, England’s first football captain, who lived there with his parents. For three months in 1852, Charles Dickens had stayed at No 10.
During the Second World War, Numbers 7-10 Camden Crescent fell victim to enemy action.
