Worcestershire - Badsey: Horsebridge Hill
Horsebridge Hill is located on the boundary between Badsey and Aldington, and is named after the road bridge over Badsey Brook. It is mentioned in a letter of 6th May 1916 when Julius Sladden describes Jack taking his mother for a long ride in a bath chair, beyond the top of Horsebridge Hill. In those days, the top of the hill was much higher than it is today. The top was taken off in 1934 when a new bridge was built, replacing the old bridge which had carried the Bengeworth-Badsey Turnpike road.
Horsebridge Hill is also referred to in George Sladden’s letter of 7th October 1916 when he likens the banks at Horsebridge Hill to a place in France where he watched in wonderment as he saw tanks for the first time ascending the bank.
