On 1st July 2012 the Olympic torch relay passed through Wickhamford along Pitchers Hill on its way from Evesham to Broadway. The event was watched by several hundred spectators from the village and surrounding area. The Games were held in London from 27 July until 12 August. The torch had been lit in the Temple of Hera, Olympia, Greece on 10 May and the handover ceremony took place in the Panathinaiko Stadium, Athens, on 17 May. The UK torch relay lasted 70 days and about 8,000 people carried the torch for a total distance of about 8,000 miles to ensure that it came within 10 miles of 95% of the UK population. The day the torch passed through Wickhamford was Day 44 and it had started in Coventry.
