Title Deeds to the Manor of Badsey

The following is a list of title deeds to the Manor of Badsey which was made by William Bonaker in 1822.  He states that he had the deeds in his possession, but only this transcription survives.  We are grateful to the late Richard Phillips for making a copy of this transcription.

Schedule of the Title Deeds to the Manor of Badsey in the county of Worcester and certain lands there, the property of Edward Wilson, Esquire, deposited in the possession of William Bonaker of Evesham in the said county, Esquire.

  • 10th June 1589 – Thomas Throckmorton to Reece Griffin, release of Manor of Badsey and lands there.
  • 17th February 1598 – Griffin to Hoby, release of Manor and Lands.
  • 20th November, 42 Eliz – Hobye to Kighley and wife, release of Manor of Badsey and lands
  • 1st May 7th Jac – Kettleby and wife to Cooke and Spekarte?, conveyance of Manor and lands
  • 20th November 1611 – Charles Kettleby and wife and Abraham Spekarte to John Kettleby, release of Manor.
  • 1st May, 9 Jac – Charles Kettleby and wife to Hy Cooke and Abraham Separte, conveyance of Manor and lands.
  • 17th April 1616 – Charles and John Kettleby to Sebastian Hawey and wife, feoffment of Manor and Lands.
  • 27th December, 6 Charles 1631 – Sir Thomas Hinton? An wife to William Gabriel, Pill? deed to levy fine on Manor, etc.
  • 18th June 1677 – Nathaniel Smyth, Katherine Smyth and Thomas Smyth to Thomas Wilson, assignment of Manor for 1000 years and ffeofment and lands.
  • 4th and 5th January 1682 – Sir Edward Dinely to Katherine Wilson, widow, lease and release of a piece of ground in Badsey called Bully Brook.
  • 4th June 1657 – Richard Badger Senior to Richard Badger Junior, marriage settlement and conveyance of certain lands in Badsey.
  • 27th February 1713 – Richard Badsey to William Badsey, conveyance of a moiety of two houses.
  • 29th September 1714 – William Badsey to Edward Wilson, bond to perform covenants.

  • 29th September 1652 – William Pidgeon and wife to Thomas Ashwin, feoffment of lands.
  • 20th September 1656 – William Pidgeon and wife to Thomas Ashwin, release of house and lands.
  • 22nd April 1684 – Thomas Pidgeon and wife to Augustine Jarrett, feoffment of lands.
  • 23rd April 1684 – Thomas Pidgeon and wife by the direction of Jarrett to Messrs George and Giles Pidgeon, assignment of term of 500 years to attend the inheritance.
  • 28th and 29th September 1715 – John and Richard Ashwin to Edward Wilson, lease and release of lands.
  • 2nd and 3rd October 1721, James Jarrett Esq to Edward Wilson, lease and release.

  • 3rd January 1722 – Thomas Wilson to Edward Wilson – ffeofment of Ley and land near the Green.

  • 10th March 1733 – Hannah Wilson to husband – deed of discharge.
  • 2nd June 1747 – Wilson to Brooks, marriage settlement.
  • 20th June 1767 – Wilson to Smyth, mortgage.
  • 22nd and 23rd July 1771 – Thomas Izod to Edward Wilson, lease and release.
  • 23rd July 1771 – Messrs Penny Acton and Smith by the direction of Izod to Richard Baldwin, assignment of term in trust for Edward Wilson and to attend the inheritance.
  • 1st May 1772 – Mary Wilson to Edward Wilson, grant of annuity.
  • 25th March 1776 – Edward Wilson to Michael Russell, mortgage.
  • 3rd November 1772 – Richard Hall and wife and Roberts and wife to Edward Wilson, lease fo farm.
  • 15th December1777 – Edward Wilson to Thomas Beale William Barnes and Joseph Smith, mortgage to secure £100 in trust for poor of Bengeworth.
  • 12th August 1782 – Edward Wilson to Charles Welch, mortgage.
  • 26th September 1782 – Edward Wilson to George Ewans, deed to lead the uses in fine.

  • 1st September 1816 – Edward Wilson to Francis Wilson, mortgage and demise of premises at Badsey to secure £2500 and interest.
  • 1st July 1822 – Captain Edward Wilson by the direction of Edward Wilson to William Bonaker, assignment of mortgage.

1st July 1822 – I the undersigned William Bonaker do acknowledge to have the deeds particularised and the foregoing schedule belonging to Mr Edward Wilson in my possession.
