Private Raymond Percy Marstone Hartwell (1895-1943) served in the 9th Worcestershire Regiment (No 30231) and then the Machine Gun Corps (No 177271). He was awarded only the British War medal, possibly because he did not request the Victory Medal. He was discharged from the Machine Gun Corps, with the rank of Acting Corporal, on 3rd January 1920. His records show that he was entitled to a Disability Pension.
In 1911, Raymond Hartwell was 15 and living with his widowed mother, Emily, in Manor Road and employed as a farm labourer. His name appears on a list of Worcestershire Regiment men who were absent voters in 1919 and from the village of Wickhamford.
