Private William George Newitt (1894-1967) was born in Blockley, the son of Thomas and Elizabeth Newitt. Badsey School admission records for William and his siblings reveal that the family lived in Wickhamford from April 1907 to October 1910. By 1911 they were living in Childswickham in 1911.
William was a labourer who joined the 6th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment (No 15453) on 2nd September 1914, in Evesham. He was in France from 7th March to 2nd September 1915 and was wounded in the hand whilst in action on 6th June. He was discharged as unfit on 22nd February 1916.
He died in Wickhamford in April 1967.
