Herbert George Jones was living at 5 Longdon Hill, Wickhamford, at the 1911 census. He had been born in Abberton, near Pershore, and was working as a carter on a farm. By that time, he and his wife Elizabeth (née Drury) had four children born, but one had died.
He enlisted in the Army Service Corps Motor Transport section on 2nd September 1915, as a Private (No M2/120090), but was discharged from the army on 5th February 1916. He was classified as no longer physically fit for war service and was issued with a Silver War Badge on 12th November that year. He did not serve overseas.
The Jones family had moved back to Abberton by the time of the 1921 census, and they had two more children. Herbert George Jones died in Nuneaton in 1955.
