Case for exemption
Henry Keen (33), market gardener, of School Road, Badsey, applied for further exemption on account of his wife suffering from consumption. They had one little girl. He had two acres of land and worked for his father on his 15 acres in the place of his brother, who was in France. Exemption had been granted till January 1. Lieutenant Shelmerdine said applicant had not been granted a certificate by the War Agricultural Committee, and appellant complained that “single chaps” were getting them who had not half the responsible job he had. He worked practically full time for his father, who was 65. He had been passed for general service. His brother was 32 years of age, and was medically rejected, and also worked for his father, but some days his brother could not work at all.
