1955 February – Newspaper article about dancers competing for Avon Trophy

Copy of The Evesham Standard, dated 11th February 1955, with an article entitled “Dancers compete for Avon Trophy” on page 4:

Nearly 20 couples (one pair came from as far afield as Bristol) competed for Mr G H Stewart’s Avon Christmas Trophy during the ballroom dancing contest organised by the Avon Social Club at their dance at Evesham Public Hall on Friday.

Competition dancers were tested in the waltz, quickstep and slow foxtrot by a team of Cheltenham experts, and between the heats there was an exhibition by Frank and Janet Lister, a Cheltenham couple who have won national fame.

The cup, won by Doug Redman and Anne Gurney, of Cheltenham, was presented to them by Mrs G H Stewart……
