Evesham Advertisers

Various traders from Evesham advertised in the Flower Show programme:

  • J N Harvey of The Nurseries, Evesham, advertised fruit trees, roses, ornamental shrubs, etc, gardens renovated or designed, crazy paths and rockeries constructed.
  • Craven & Co, the better fruit fir, manufacturing horticultural chemists.
  • F Manson Stubbs of The General Drapery House, Luton House, Bengeworth advertised his millinery, baby linen, ribbons, flowers, Lena-lastik underwear, Wolsey underwear, Fitu corsets and a “larger stock than ever in ladies’ artificial silk hose”.
  • John Foster & Co, family grocers and provision merchants, of 16-25 Port Street, tea being their speciality.
  • Elliott Evesham, cash chemist, near The Alley.
  • Spaldings’ noted Bull Dog brand of organic manures for all crops.  Spaldings of Lincolnshire is still in business today.  Their website describes themselves as “one of the UK and Ireland’s leading Agriculture, Groundcare, Industrial and Forestry specialists with over 60 years industry experience”.  Clearly, as they were advertising in 1926, they have been in existence for almost a hundred years.  The agent was Arthur Edwin Thorne of Evesham, who had earlier lived in Wickhamford.
  • A H Wright & Son Ltd, Evesham sold “everything for the farm and garden”.  They were the sole distributors in the county for Norwegian granular nitrate of lime.
  • Ward & Son, 8 Bridge Street, Jewellers and Silversmiths
  • T M Evans, Bridge Street, agents for Gilbey’s wine and spirits, tea and coffee specialist, the only coffee roaster in Evesham.
  • G A Bunting, Autumn Seeds, of 78 & 81 Port Street - he held selected stocks of cabbage (Myatt’s Offenham), lettuce (cabbage and cos varieties), onions (white Lisbon and Tripoli), spinach (Giant’s leaf prickly) and turnips (best winter varieties).
  • Mortons of 51 Bridge Street, Evesham, were the agents for Dryfoot Boots which were advertised as “the most important thing to gardeners is to wear Dryfoot boots – boots that will keep the feet dry.”
  • Edward Bourne, practical watchmaker and jeweller, of 22A Bridge Street.
  • John Knight, printer and book-binder of Brick Kiln Street.
