Royal Ascot
Arranged by Julie Gardner
The summer race meet at Ascot became known as the “Royal Week” in 1911 and Princess Elizabeth attended her first Royal Ascot in 1946. It’s one of the highlight e vents in the Queen’s calendar and since the Queen ascended the throne, she has not missed a single Royal Ascot until the 2022 session. The Queen is an owner/breeder of many thoroughbreds and her own horses have won many times – the Queen has been in the winners’ enclosure 24 times and was the first reigning monarch to win the Gold Cup.
