BADSEY – SCHOOL TEACHERS WED
The marriage of Mr W J McKanan-Jones and Miss Evelyn Barnard was solemnised in St James’ Church on Thursday last by the Vicar (Canon W Allsebrook). Mr Jones, who for the last 5½ years has been an assistant master at the Council Schools, Badsey, was educated at Pwllheli County School and Bangor College. Since residing at Badsey, Mr Jones has taken a great interest in the social life of the parish, being the Hon Treasurer and Hon Secretary of the Badsey Horticultural Society. He has also been a member of the Vale of Evesham Athletic Club. He is the elder son of the late Mr J McKanan-Jones and of Mrs McKanan-Jones of Abersoch, North Wales.
Miss Barnard, who is the fifth daughter of Mr & Mrs James Barnard of Vine Cottage, Badsey, has also been engaged in the teaching profession. Educated at Badsey Council School and Prince Henry’s Grammar School, she has been a teacher at Badsey Council School and Cleeve Prior for the last four years. She too has also taken a great interest in the social work of the village and is a Sunday School teacher.
The bride was attired in a two-piece ensemble of dusty pink with brown trimming. She carried a Prayer Book. She was given away by her brother, Mr F Barnard, owing to the illness of her father. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr H A McKanan-Jones. The reception was held at the home of Mr J Barnard, Packs House, the guests including Mr & Mrs McKanan-Jones, Mr Gwlym Williams, Canon W C Allsebrook, Nr & Mrs F Amos, Miss McDonald, Mrs Morris, Miss Hartwell, Mr & Mrs T H Collett, Mrs Webster and Mrs A A Gorin. Mr & Mrs McKanan-Jones were the recipients of many valuable and useful presents, including those from the staff and children of Badsey Council Schools, the staff of Cleeve Prior School, the managers of Cleeve Prior School, Badsey Sunday School and Badsey Horticultural Society.
After their honeymoon, which is being spent in London, Mr & Mrs McKanan-Jones will return to Tan-y-Fron, Blackminster.
