HONEYBOURNE BRIDE – Miss K A Clarke married to Mr A W Smith
Considerable interest was aroused in the Broadway and Evesham districts in the marriage which took place at St Ecgwin’s Church, Honeybourne, near Broadway, on Wednesday, of Miss K A Clarke, daughter of Mr Henry Clarke of Fernleigh, Honeybourne, and Mr A W Smith, son of Mr A W Smith of Blackminster near Evesham.
A large number of people assembled at the church to witness the ceremony, which was performed by the Rev J H Waugh, Vicar of Bretforton. The service was choral, and the hymns, “Lead Us Heavenly Father, lead us” and “Thine for ever God of Love” were sung.
The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a white georgette dress, with wreath and veil, and she carried a sheaf of Madonna lilies.
There were two bridesmaids, Miss Audrey Gardiner (friend of the bride) of Broadway, and Miss Mona Clarke (niece of the bride) of Middle Farm, North Littleton. Miss Gardiner was dressed in green crepe-de-chine, with large leghorn hat trimmed with green velvet to match her dress. Little Miss Clarke looked very pretty in her shell pink dress with matching headdress. Both bridesmaids carried bouquets of pink and white carnations and wore necklets which were the gift of the bridegroom.
The bride and bridegroom received many valuable and useful presents, including an oak clock from the Post Office staff at Broadway where the bride was employed.
The best man was Mr F G Smith, brother of the bridegroom.
After the marriage a reception was held at the newly-erected Honeybourne Village Hall, and a large number of people were present.
The honeymoon is being spent touring North Wales, and the bride’s travelling outfit was a turquoise dress, navy blue coat, and hat and shoes to match. The future home of the couple will be Greyholme, Blackminster.
