EVESHAM BRIDEGROOM AT BADSEY
The wedding took place on Saturday at Badsey Church of Miss Jean Stewart, eldest daughter of Mr & Mrs A W Stewart of Glencairn, Bretforton Road, Badsey, and Mr Francis Trevor Davis, only son of Mr & Mrs P Davis of 35 The Leys, Evesham.
Given away by her father, the bride wore white lace and net over taffeta, her veil being held in place with a headdress of pearls and orange blossom, she carried a bouquet of red carnations. In attendance were two bridesmaids, Miss Ruth Davis (sister of the bridegroom) and Miss Jean Prentice (friend of the bride). Both wore dresses of turquoise taffeta with matching headdresses. Their bouquets consisted of bronze chrysanthemums. The bridegroom’s friend, Mr K J Spragg of Evesham, was best man.
The service was conducted by the Vicar of Badsey, the Rev W B Chapman and Mrs G Marshall was at the organ.
A reception for 100 guests followed at The Royal Oak, Badsey.
The bridegroom’s present to the bride consisted of a treble string of pearls and she presented him with a razor. The groom’s presents to the bridesmaids were a writing case to Miss R Davis and a clock to Miss J Prentice. The couple received an electric table lamp from the staff of Messrs Hamilton-Bell Ltd, where the bride is employed. The bridegroom, who is a Midland Red bus conductor at Evesham, received an eight-day clock from the staff. As the couple left the church they were presented with horseshoes by Barbara Lord and Linda Barron (friends) and Carol Stewart and Gillian Bartlett (cousins), while another cousin, Karolyn Fulcher, gave them a wooden spoon.
At the reception, the best man revealed that that day was also the anniversary of the bride’s parents’ wedding day and that her uncle and aunt, Mr & Mrs G H Stewart, were also celebrating theirs.
For the honeymoon at Blackpool, the bride travelled in a grey suiting coat with cherry red accessories.
