BADSEY WEDDING
The wedding took place at Badsey on Monday of Miss Nora Wheatley, youngest daughter of Mrs and the late Mr Horace Wheatley, of The Poplars, High Street, and Mr William John Sears, second son of Mr & Mrs Thomas Sears of Chapel Street. The ceremony was conducted by the Vicar (Canon Allsebrook), but was kept very quiet, owing to the recent death of the bride’s father. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr William Wheatley, was attired in a medium grey costumer, with grey shoes and stockings to match. She wore a white hat trimmed with black, and gauntlet gloves, and carried an ivory Prayer Book. She was attended by one bridesmaid, Miss Betty Wheatley, her sister, who was dressed in a medium grey costume, grey shoes and stockings to tone and a white hat trimmed with black. She also carried an ivory Prayer Book. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr Albert Sears, brother of the groom. Both the bride and bridegroom are natives of the village and have a wide circle of friends. The groom is a prominent member of the village football club and has been associated with this sport for some years. When attending Badsey Council School he assisted the school first eleven, and upon leaving played with Badsey Juniors. He also played for Evesham Rovers and Badsey Arravale Football Clubs, but for the past few years he has been a prominent playing member of the Rangers’ Club. He has been vice captain of the team for the past three years. A few years ago he was a member of the Badsey Cricket Club. He is also a member of the Ernie Thomas RAOB Lodge. Later in the day Mr & Mrs Sears left for their honeymoon which is being spent at Weston-super-Mare. They will make their future home at Claybrook, Bretforton Road, Badsey. Mr & Mrs Sears were the recipients of numerous useful and handsome presents from relatives and friends.
