Considerable interest was taken in the wedding, which took place at St James’ Church on Wednesday afternoon, between Miss Evelyn Margaret Crane, only daughter of Mrs and the late Mr C H Crane of 5 Synehurst Avenue, and Mr Arthur James Barrington Day, eldest son of Mr & Mrs W B Day of 25 Limes Street, Evesham. The ceremony was performed by the Vicar (Canon W C Allsebrook). The bride, who was given away by her uncle, Mr C Praice, looked charming in an ankle-length dress of turquoise blue crepe, with pink hat and shoes. She carried a shower bouquet of pink roses with maidenhair fern. The bridesmaid was Miss Ruth Summers, an old school friend of the bride, who was attired in an ankle-length dress of pink georgette with shoes and hat to tone. Her bouquet comprised a shower of cream roses with maidenhair fern. The duties of best man were carried out by Mr W Day, brother of the bridegroom. The gift of the bridegroom to the bridesmaid was a silver antique bracelet. As the happy couple left the church the ringers rang a peal on the bells, and also rang during the evening. Both the bride and bridegroom are well known in the district and have a wide circle of friends. The bride is a native of the village. She was educated at Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Evesham, where she attended for six years, and succeeded in passing the Oxford Local Examination. While at school she was vice-captain of Holland House, secretary of the school eleven Hockey Club, a playing member of the senior team. She also took a keen interest in tennis and badminton. After leaving school, she was employed by the Evesham Rural District Council. The bridegroom was born at Croydon and received his education at Taunton School. After leaving school, he was employed at Messrs G & W Morton Ltd at their branch at Evesham, but is now manager of one of the firm’s branches in Birmingham. For about six years he was an ardent member of the 1st Evesham Troop of the Boy Scouts. After the wedding a reception was held at the home of the bride’s mother. Later in the day, Mr & Mrs Day left for their future home at Tyseley, 267 Mary Vale Road, Bournville. They were the recipients of numerous useful and handsome presents, including a Parker Knoll chair and cushion from the staff of the Evesham Rural District Council.
